UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou took to the internet to tell his story about getting injured at UFC 270 against Cyril Gane and the process of deciding whether or not to fight.

Ngannou (17-3) last fought in January of this year when he defeated Gane by decision to retain his heavyweight title. After the fight, he revealed that he will have to undergo surgery on his injured right knee and will be out for an extended period of time.

Historically, most fighters have gone radio silent after revelations such as injury in order to go through the healing and recovery process. Ngannou’s situation is unique in that he is not only the current heavyweight champion, but is also in contract negotiations with the UFC.

Instead of letting the promotion or the media tell the story of the injury, UFC 270 and post-fight journey, Ngannou released a series of YouTube videos that tell the story in his own words.

Ngannou defeated Gane at UFC 270, unifying his title with the interim belt that Gane held.

Ngannou is still in the midst of recovering from knee surgery and nothing of note has been released regarding his UFC contract negotiations.

Keep up with Ngannou’s recovery on his YouTube channel here.
