The House committee on Jan. 6 postponed its ninth public hearing on its investigation — originally scheduled for Sept. 28 at 1 p.m. ET — because of Hurricane Ian.

When the hearing is rescheduled, it could finish presenting the results of the investigation before the final report, which is due later this year.

“In light of Hurricane Ian bearing down on parts of Florida, we have decided to postpone tomorrow’s proceedings,” Speaker Benny Thompson, D-Miss., and Vice Speaker Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., said in a statement. “We are praying for the safety of everyone in the path of the storm. The special commission’s investigation is ongoing and we will soon announce a date for the adjourned proceedings.”

The hearing would be his first since a string of hit presentations earlier this summer. During the hearings, the panel presented new evidence through testimony from former President Donald Trump’s top aides, advisers and allies. The hearings were intended to show that Trump had a much larger role in the effort to overturn the results of the 2020 election and the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.

As the panel shared those findings, committee members called for more hearings after the August recess to present evidence. However, only one has been set so far and the panel will now have to reschedule it for a later date.

The panel members also declined to elaborate on the topics that might be covered in this next presentation.

Members also said they could issue a list of recommendations in the coming weeks. A final report is expected by the end of the year, along with potential hearings held along with details of those findings.
